Inslee owes us leadership
Dear Governor Inslee,
I listened to your press conference on Wednesday and you are missing the point. You have created a false choice between social distancing and the economy. This assumes we can't have both.
The fact that "essential" businesses have operated throughout this shutdown proves that safe social distancing can coexist with an operational economy. Many or most "non-essential" businesses can operate and utilize the same social distancing practices if given the opportunity.
Businesses that have taken a lifetime to build are in peril. Partially completed construction projects are victims of weather, vandalism, and economic forces. Some will never recover, and more will surely be lost if this shutdown continues. The mental and physical stress on these families is overwhelming and must be acknowledged and alleviated.
President Trump wisely delegated powers to the governors to determine what was best for their state. Gov. Inslee, it is now time for you to stop picking winners and losers and let each county decide how to restart. Each county is unique. County councils, mayors, industry leaders and trade associations are best equipped to work together to determine best practices and protocols.
It is time to THANK THE PEOPLE of Washington. We have done our part and have sacrificed much to save lives. We have given up weddings, graduations, church services, funerals, school, income and businesses. Some have given up loved ones as they died alone.
It is time to let our construction industry BUILD, churches GATHER, restaurants OPEN, and PEOPLE get back to work and life.
The citizens of Washington are better and wiser than you think. I believe in them, and it's time you did so as well.
