Knives with a Story: Chris Shires of Bordertown Blades
Today, we go behind the scenes with Chris Shires, Owner of Bordertown Blades in Blaine! Chris makes beautiful, heirloom quality custom knives for everything from kitchen use to sporting and show.
Chris is also quite a history buff, and names many of his knives after historical figures who had an impact on American history. One such piece is a Japanese nakiri knife, which he calls the Ben Kuroki, named after the only Japanese American pilot in WWII to fly missions over Japan and the Pacific Theater. The Eli Parker knife is named after the Seneca Native who served General Grant as a secretary and wrote the terms of surrender for the Confederacy.
Chris relies on knife shows, trade shows and other large events to help market his products all over the country. Many of these events have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Be sure to support your local businesses during this time!
